Public telephone box of Pedraza

Posted in Main road, Curiosity, Photo, General on January 26th, 2009 by Discovers Pedraza

Nowadays, with the cell or mobile phones, the use of the public telephone boxes has descended enormously. Not long ago there was no another way of communicating when one was not at home, or there was no even another form position that did not have fixed phone at home. In Pedraza there was a point of telephone access for many years (also known like switchboard) where at present the Tourist information office is, in the Real Street: Phones. Ino, neighbor of the people, was receiving the calls and was enabling the cabin so that you could realize them. Sometimes it was calling neighbors so that they were warning other neighbors and were saying to them that they had called them or that they would call them again in equis time …

These images are of the current public cabin, placed in the Main road, very close to the Biggest Square, for many invisibly since it is completely integrated by the wall not to distort the beauty of the environment.

Do you cheer up to remember how it was used and to call some friend or relative?

Placed in an end of the hill where the population settles, the Pedraza castle is a work of the XIVth century, on remains of previous fortifications, with reforms of the XVth and XVI. It belonged to the families Farrier and Fernández de Velasco (dukes of Cold and condestables of Castile). It is famous, in other things, for having been the place chosen by Carlos V about 1529 to guard the children of the king of France, Francisco I, prisoners in the Pavía battle. It was a residence of the painter Zuloaga, and today it lodges a museum dedicated to his work. Fue residencia del pintor Zuloaga, y hoy día alberga un museo dedicado a su obra.

It has irregular polygonal plant, of double enclosure, with square towers and pit. His picture cut away in the sky, raised on top of the hill, is imposing when the traveler comes closer Pedraza for the highway of The Velilla. The wooden door of the entry is an ogival arch of the XVIth century wrapped up by two big garitones. It still preserves sharp iron tops in the shape of small pyramids.
