Curiosities
Of Pedraza they were several conquerors who founded the cities of Pedraza and Pedraza Piece of news in the Venezuelan Barinas state. The city of Our Lady of Pedraza was founded by Gonzalo Piña Ludueña, native of Gibraltar, in 1591, in honor of Dr. Antonio González, governor of the New Kingdom of Granada, who was a native of the town from Segovia of Pedraza. The beginning of this city were quite hard and it was destroyed in several occasions by the jirajaras, up to the point of which they ended up by founding another city a few years later more to the east, with the same name of Pedraza. Nevertheless, as the ancient population continued in spite of everything in the original place, they began to differ with the names of Pedraza and Pedraza Piece of news, the last one with the current name of City Bolivia, of more than 20.000 inhabitants, capital of the municipality Pedraza. A good example of what meant the Spanish work in America with the emigration (that caused the depopulation of many Spanish regions) and the colonization and foundation of 40.000 cities in the New World.
The night of the sails
This celebration congregates every year to a visitors' enormous quantity. Both the inhabitants and many visitors adorn the population with thousands of sails at the beginning of July (the first and the second on Saturdays of the above mentioned month). The public lights go out and many windows close if some light wants to catch fire in order to highlight the lighting of the streets, windows, squares, gardens and courtyards. The simple laying of the burning sails is late several hours in the evening.
